In Between

I’m between challenge socks right now and was going for a road trip over the weekend.  I needed some knitting to take with, because after all riding in the car is prime knitting time.  However, I couldn’t take the current project since it’s more gift knitting, so I was left with a bit of a […]

Finishitis

It’s finally happened, I encountered that oh-so-rare bird known as ‘finishitis’.  All knitters know its close relative, ‘startitis’ (which the Yarn Harlot so recently faced), but most consider ‘finishitis’ to be mere myth.  I can say with great joy that this isn’t the case.  In the span of just a few short days (well, maybe […]

Ms. Fixit

Ms. Fixit

I’ve been working on my Imbolc socks, which I cast on a few days ago on Yule – keeping to the schedule so far, which is to be expected since this is only the second pair of my self-imposed challenge.  These are my first pair of toe-up socks, and are a lovely KSD odd-duck of […]

wrapped up

Nearly all of the gift knitting has been given to the appropriate recipients, so I can finally blog about it!  I made an effort to control the amount of gift knitting, since I fully recognize that I’m not always great about deadlines (like Douglas Adams, I like the wooshing sound they make as they fly […]

One down, seven to go

I finished my Yule socks!  And what could be more fitting than to photograph them in the snow?  Though I will admit that this was the fastest shoot I’ve done, since it’s bloody cold out there today.  I’ve also been working on more holiday knitting/crocheting, which I of course can’t blog about just yet.  One […]

Challenge

Sorry for the dearth of posts – been working on holiday knitting and can’t blog about that in case the recipients see! I recently gave myself a challenge.  I’ve been following the Yarn Harlot’s tales of her self-imposed sock club, and I loved the idea.  However, I know myself too well to believe that I […]

never try to take an artistic picture of your own foot when your neighbors are watching

One sock done!  Pic’s a little overexposed, but you get the point.  The folks across the street caught me attempting odd contortionist-type moves to try to get a good pic of this.  Too bad those were all blurry, and I had to go with the usual view of my left ankle.  It’s sad that I’m […]

I get no respect

First the dog is unimpressed by my lovely sock, then my dad tells me that ‘there’s a great big hole in the toe, you know’. Thanks, Dad.  Very helpful. On an unrelated note, I bought my ticket to see The National – squee!

Scenes from a summer porch

Bugs droning, kids playing pee-wee football in the park across the street, sun filtering through the trees, dog sleeping on my foot, and half of a sock on the needles. Life is good. Gratuitous sock pics: MacKenzie remains unconvinced… she apparently doesn’t understand the importance of a good sock.

This yarn will not defeat me

When I first decided to take on the challenge of knitting socks, I bought some lovely purple Malabrigo Sock yarn.  I also bought an eight-inch circular needle in a size US 1.  Mistake number one.  I’d never knitted on anything that small before.  For non-knitters, this needle is just 2.25 mm in diameter – that’s […]
