Since my last update, I’ve knitted up the Ostara socks for my self-imposed Wheel of the Year Challenge.  I cast these on during the blizzard earlier in February, and that might have had an impact on my subject choice.  I was utterly sick of snow, so I nabbed some bright, cheerful sunrise shades of Unique Sheep Gradiance in a colourway called ‘Glee’ (so perfect) and started stitching butterflies.  The instep is done in butterfly lace, and the cute little butterflies are based on Nellie’s Crochet Butterfly (big ones are her pattern, small ones are my adaptation).

This was my first go-round of knitting a pair of socks without any semblance of a pattern, as well as my first attempt at two-at-a-time toe-up magic loop.  Slightly tricky to start, but fantastical after that – it was especially nice not to worry about duplicating the placement of the colour changes and number of stitches in the heel turn.

They’re really quite impractical, and I love them all the more for it.  I’ll take better pics in the sun if it ever comes out when I’m home.
